Band Singer, Napa, California, 2005

I took this picture at a fundraising event at Copia, in Napa, California.  Copia was a museum that was started by Julia Child and Robert Mondavi that revolved around food, wine and the arts.  Odd kind of concept but the museum was very interesting.  Unfortunately it failed and I’m not sure if it will ever reopen.

I was part of a video team at the gala and was taking stills of the party that preceded dinner.  This woman was singing with the band.  During a break, she was mingling with the crowd and I discovered her framed between the two men.  Just as I squeezed the shutter, she realized I was there, perked up, raised and eyebrow and gave me this great expression.  This has been a favorite picture of mine since that time.  Originally in color, I think the black and white version works better.

U.S 33 South, Dunlap, IN

US 33 South of Elkhart has been undergoing road construction for at least three years, and although it has become extremely annoying for those of us who drive down to the shopping area that’s between Elkhart and downtown Goshen, there’s an added benefit: you have to slow down long enough to notice some of the weird, oddball building and businesses that are hanging on the railroad track side of the highway.  Here are a couple of these.

Storm clearing on US 20 West.

A rather strong, if short-lived storm blew up on US 20 as I was heading to the IUSB Campus. There was even a little hail, if the cracking sounds on my car roof and windshield were any indication. This is a shot of the storm as it was clearing — kind of blurry through the windshield, improved slightly with Aviary.com’s photo editing program.
